All DogCoach products have a dirt-repellent surface and are super easy to wipe down with a damp cloth.
Even though they’re machine washable, we recommend skipping frequent washing to keep your gear looking great for longer.
Before you wash
- Check the care label: Always read the washing instructions inside your product before washing.
- Close zippers and buttons: This helps protect both your gear and your washing machine.
- Wash inside out: Turn the product inside out to protect the outer layer.
Washing non-waterproof products
- Use a normal cycle at 30°C/40°C (around 86°F/104°F).
Washing waterproof gear with membrane (100% waterproof products)
What the membrane does: If your item is 100% waterproof (like the parka or shell jacket), it has a membrane that keeps you dry and lets your body breathe. Fabric softeners can clog this membrane and stop it from working properly.
- Choose the right detergent: Use a gentle, liquid outdoor detergent without enzymes (like Grangers Performance Wash). Enzymes can break down the membrane’s protection.
- Skip the fabric softener: It blocks the membrane and makes the product less breathable.
- Tip: If you’ve used enzyme-based detergent before, wash again at 30/40°C without any detergent to rinse out any residue.
Special note for the KeepDry jacket
Tumble dry on low heat after washing to help the filling distribute properly. Use dryer balls or something similar to avoid clumping.
Washing & re-waterproofing older products
Over time, the water-repellent coating wears off. When it’s time to re-waterproof, wash the product with regular liquid detergent (no fabric softener or perfume—something like Neutral is great). Skip the powder detergent - it can stick to the fabric.
- Rinse well: After washing, give it an extra rinse to make sure all soap is out.
How to re-waterproof
- Do it after a fresh wash, while the item is still damp.
- Spray on the waterproofing product evenly.
- Tumble dry on low (around 40°C/104°F) for about 45 minutes to help the filling redistribute.
- Test it: Splash on some cold water. If it beads up and rolls off, you’re good!
Extra care tips
- Wash separately or with similar fabrics.
