Warning: Choose your dog sitter carefully!

Advarsel: Vælg din hundepasser med omhu!

I was going to a camp with my work and the dogs were going up to their dog sitter. The dogs have been there many times, and I am completely comfortable with the arrangement. On the first day at the camp I get a message that Maggie can do things. I ask back, wondering, what do you mean? She had jumped out the kitchen window, and was lying pretty good on the garden bench when the dog sitter came home. I was a bit surprised when Maggie first had to jump up onto the kitchen table and then take it out of the window. But nothing had happened to the dog, so I didn't think anything more about it.

Most of the next day had passed when I received another message from the dog sitter. “Your dog has become a leash dog!!” I immediately wrote back and asked why. It turned out that Luna's hunting instinct had kicked in and she had taken two chickens. The dog sitter had been in the garden, in the nice weather, arranging dahlias, in a bikini and rubber boots. Suddenly Luna passed her after a chicken.

The dog sitter chased after Luna, shouting and screaming. She was completely deaf and before she could be herded into a corner, she had taken two chickens with her. I was shocked and couldn't quite decide whether to be angry, embarrassed or proud.

Fortunately, the dog sitter took it easy and announced that it went to the “shit happens account”. To make sure it wasn’t a lie, the next day I got another message from the dog sitter. Honey had slipped out the gate. A job she had taken up in her old age. The dog sitter was already late for today’s appointment. After trying her sweet, enticing voice, she finally had to lay a trail of treats from the road into the garden. Then she had to sit in the hedge and wait patiently for Honey to discover the trail and she could close the gate.

They had to be picked up the next day, and it was apparently very good...

Behind the scenes of this week's blogger

Ea: Ea has 3 female dogs, Honey, 11 years old, Luna, 2 years old and Maggie, 9 weeks old. Her oldest dog is a dachshund mix that she brought home from her time in Greenland. The other two are cocker mixes with duracell batteries. Ea trains Nose Work with all her dogs, it is a fantastic activity/sport. Luna is environmentally trained and socially trained from an early age, as she will hopefully one day be used as a pedagogical "tool".
