Family (and dog) collective

Familie-(og hunde) kollektiv

A very big dream has come true for us - we have bought our own little farm!

But even though we are overjoyed to soon be able to take over the farm, it is never easy to pull up the tent poles and move your entire life somewhere else.

Unfortunately, the situation also became a bit more difficult when our house was sold before we had the opportunity to take over our new home. In addition to the hassle of having to "move twice", we were also a bit anxious in that we wanted to spare both the dogs and the child as much moving chaos as possible. Having to get them used to living in a new place twice within 1.5 months was definitely not optimal.

We therefore ended up accepting the generous opportunity to temporarily move in with my in-laws, and it turned out to be the perfect solution for all of us!

Both the dogs and the child found it completely natural to move in with the in-laws, whom they are fortunately used to visiting often, so they could feel at home and relax from the first day of moving in.

Furthermore, the shared living space also meant double the hands to take care of both the dogs and the child, so for the first time in almost 1.5 years, my boyfriend and I could actually go for an evening walk with the dogs TOGETHER!
It seems like a simple thing, but we were completely ecstatic that it was suddenly a possibility ;-)

Normally, there's always one of us who has to stay home and be on "baby alarm duty", but now - while the baby was sleeping soundly - the grandparents could keep an ear on her while we walked the dogs. Hallelujah!

It's also a big bonus that my in-laws are dog lovers themselves. They have a Malinois themselves, so we could also help each other exercise and look after each other's dogs if necessary.

For example, they were on vacation for an extended weekend, so I got in some serious training in terms of coordinating 3 dogs on a leash, with vastly different paces!
It went really well, though, and it was great to see how the dogs benefited from extra company, both in the form of each other, but also because there was almost always one of us at home, due to changing work hours/days off.

So even though we are really looking forward to starting our new life in the country, I can certainly understand the increasing trend of multi-generational homes. We really enjoyed a month of relaxation and relief, on top of a tough house buying/selling process.

Behind the scenes of this week's blogger:

My name is Line, I am 23 years old and I have two beautiful dogs - Saga: a 5-year-old Tibetan Spaniel, and Dumle: a 4-year-old Labrador.

I love collaborating and developing with my dogs, and we therefore regularly try out all sorts of different disciplines within dog sports. Our biggest passion, however, is rally, where we can often be found on the competition track.
