The dog on a walk

Hunden med på tur

When the dog and I are on a walk, it's basically me who is with the dog on the walk, because I'm the one who has to go out and stretch my legs and sniff, and then I'm just there as a leash holder.

But sometimes there is also a need for the dog to come with me on a walk.

The bass is not so good at being home alone, so if I'm going to be away for much more than five hours, I need a dog sitter. It's not always easy to find, and it's nice if I can take the dog with me.

But what is okay to take your dog to – both in relation to the dog itself and in relation to other people?

When it comes to private visits to other people's homes, I've come to know who absolutely wants to be free and who thinks it's okay. And of course, we always make sure to follow the house rules.

My spoiled dog is allowed on the sofa and bed at home, but at my parents', for example, it's off-limits. And it's amazing how easily the dog adapts and knows that, well, okay, here I just have my blanket down on the floor (although you can always try once to see if the sofa works today).

But what if you have to go out into public spaces with your dog? Most cafes allow you to have your dog with you when you sit outside, and in principle it is also completely legal to bring it inside. It is entirely up to the individual cafe owner whether he or she wants to allow it.

There are so many who would like to be excused. As a dog owner (of a separation-afraid dog), I am therefore very excited that a number of cafes have emerged that not only allow you to bring your dog, but have actually created dog menus. A little crazy? Maybe, but also very cozy.

The other day I was going with a couple of friends and their kids to Sommerland Zealand. And I was without a dog sitter. Fortunately, it is allowed to bring the dog, and then Bassen came to playland for the first time.

I was a little skeptical, but it went great – there were lots of green spaces, not at all crowded, the kids fought to be allowed to hold the dog, and there were other cute dogs to greet. There were even several water stations with doggy water around and a fenced agility area where the dogs could also run around freely and play. Fantastically nice for dog and owner with such a dog-friendly place.

And then I have to say hello and say that I had a very tired and overturned dog on the couch in the evening.
