Julekalender med Hundeliv I Låge 9 - Lær din hund impluskontrol

🎄🎅 Happy December 9th 🎅🎄

Thank you to everyone who follows this Advent calendar - every comment, share and like is really heartwarming and remember that when you comment on Facebook you are entered into the competition for a gift card to Dogcoach❤️🤗. It's great to be able to share little tips and exercises that might make everyday life with a dog a little more fun and easier.

Everyday life is varied, and so is this calendar. But one thing often comes up again – namely impulse control 🦌⚽🍲. Impulse control can be an important part of training because it gives the dog the opportunity to think before it acts 🤔💡. It helps strengthen the recall, makes it easier to walk nicely on a leash and ensures that the pizza can be safely placed on the coffee table without unexpected bites 😅.

Impulse control is about giving the dog responsibility. When the dog chooses to refrain from the impulse, it gains valuable experience in making good decisions. Today, the exercise is about something as simple as going through doors, out of cars, baby gates or cages 🚪🚗.

Many dogs have a natural impulse to rush out 💨 – but this exercise has nothing to do with dominance or pack leader status. It's simply about strengthening the dog's ability to control its impulse 🤗.

The exercise:

Let the dog choose to wait until a signal is given. The goal is for the dog to sit or remain calm of its own accord because it knows it will pay off 🍪⚽. This is not a "stay" command, but rather giving the dog responsibility for its own decision.

Benefits of impulse control exercise:

❄️ The dog learns to think before it acts 🤔💡.
❄️ The dog gets responsibility in the collaboration 🤗.
❄️ Less need for constant supervision – the dog chooses to stay.
❄️ Possibility of training in many different contexts, which helps to generalize the exercise.

Three methods to help the dog:

1. Reward on time : Reward before the dog gets up

2. Remove the temptation : Close the door if the dog moves forward too quickly

3. Extinction : Wait calmly until the dog offers the desired behavior.
