All DogCoach products have a dirt-repellent surface and can be easily wiped with a damp cloth. Although the products are machine washable, we recommend that you avoid frequent washing to extend the life of your product.
Before washing
-
Read the washing instructions : Before washing, carefully read the washing instructions found on the inside of the product. Follow them carefully.
-
Close all zippers and buttons : This protects both the clothes and the washing machine.
-
Turn inside out : Always wash the product inside out to protect the outer surface.
Washing of regular, non-waterproof products
-
Low temperature wash : Wash at 30/40 degrees on a normal program.
Washing of products with membrane (100% waterproof products)
Function of the membrane : If your product is 100% waterproof (e.g. a parka or shell jacket), it contains a membrane that keeps you dry and allows your body to breathe. Fabric softener can block the membrane's openings and prevent it from functioning properly.
-
Choice of detergent: Use a mild, liquid outdoor detergent without enzymes (e.g. Grangers Performance Wash). Enzymes can break down the membrane's protection.
-
No fabric softener : Fabric softener can block the function of the membrane and reduce the product's ability to "breathe."
Tip : If the product has previously been washed with detergent containing enzymes, we recommend washing the product again without detergent at 30/40 degrees to remove soap residue.
Note KeepDry jacket and coat: We recommend that you tumble dry your KeepDry jacket or coat on low heat after washing to ensure the filling is distributed properly. Use low heat to protect the jacket's membrane.
Optionally with a few dryer balls or similar so that the filling doesn't clump together.
Washing and impregnation of older products
-
The impregnation wears off over time : When the product needs to be re-impregnated, it is recommended to wash it with regular liquid detergent (without fabric softener or perfume). Use, for example, Neutral, and avoid washing powder as it can settle into the material.
-
Rinse the product extra well : After using regular detergent, rinse the product extra well to remove any soap residue.
Impregnation of the product
When should you waterproof? : It is usually not necessary to waterproof the product for normal use. However, it may make sense to re-impregnate the product after several washes, when water no longer beads off the fabric during use.
- How to impregnate:
-
-
Make sure the product is as freshly washed as possible and spray the impregnation on while the product is damp.
-
Tumble dry the product at low heat (40 degrees) for approximately 45 minutes to ensure that the filling is distributed properly.
-
Test the impregnation: Spray cold water on the product. If the water beads off without penetrating, the impregnation is correct.
