DogCoach Advent Calendar 24 In Door 7: Check if your dog actually wants to be cuddled

DogCoach Julekalender 24 I Låge 7: Tjek om din hund egentlig vil nusses

December 7th: Check if your dog actually wants to be cuddled! 🐾❤️

🎄 December 7th, the Advent Calendar is all about a small change in everyday life that can make a big difference to your dog's well-being. We love to cuddle our dogs, but they don't always feel like it. So how can you make sure you respect your dog's boundaries when it comes to cuddling? 🐶💖

When dogs say "yes please" to cuddles – and when they don't

We humans love to show affection and presence through cuddles and kisses, and it's often one of the first ways we interact with our dogs. But while we find joy in this physical contact, dogs don't always feel the same way. 🐕

Most dogs want to be with us, but they can also experience physical contact as a form of "compulsive love," where they are cuddled, not because they necessarily want to, but because we want them to. This doesn't mean the dog doesn't love you - but it may not be that interested in being cuddled all the time. 😊

How do you know if your dog wants to be cuddled?

Today's tip is about learning to listen to your dog's signals. When you pet your dog, try taking a short break in the middle of the petting. Stop and see how your dog reacts. 👀

Check for these signs:

  • If your dog pushes your hand or uses its paw to "slap" you, it may be a sign that it wants more attention.
  • If the dog comes closer or lies down at your feet, it is a clear sign that it wants to continue.
  • If the dog pulls away or turns away, it may be a sign that it is not interested in more cuddling right now.

So what do you do?
When your dog shows interest in more cuddling, you can continue, and it will be a nice, cozy experience for both of you. But if your dog pulls away, it's a good idea to respect his desire to be on his own for a bit. That way, you learn to give your dog the choice - and it creates a healthier, more respectful relationship. 🐾💚

What do you do when your dog wants more cuddles?

How does your dog react when he wants more cuddles? Is your dog the one who always comes looking for attention, or is he more reserved? Share your experiences in the comments on the Facebook page and be entered into the draw for a gift card! 🎁

We look forward to hearing from you – and wish you a lovely and cuddly day! 🐕✨
