Raw feeding or dry food?

Råfodring eller tørkost?

Raw food or dry food? No, we'll take it all!

When we got Rudy almost 8 years ago, we were given a small bag of dry food from the breeder. It was the type of food he was raised on and that the breeder had selected for his dogs.

It didn't take many days before the small bag was empty, and then I tried to get hold of the same food, as according to the regulations it was good to continue with the same type. Unfortunately, it wasn't very easy to get Josera in the stores in Copenhagen at the time.

I searched the market for feed manufacturers and ended up getting my hands on something else.
It was just fine for Rudy, and he thrived on it for a long period of time, until he got tired of eating it.

So I tried to buy a freezer full of barf – raw meat.

Rudy loved it and ate everything in the bowl. It was a huge relief when he finally showed interest in food again. After he had been barfing for a while, we came home from work one day to find him with a really bad stomach ache, and as he lay on the couch we could clearly hear that his stomach was really working overtime.
A few days later, we came home from work again, and when we looked around the apartment we could see that there were small wood splinters on the floor, and unfortunately it was our panels that had been properly chewed. Rudy's stomach rumbled again – and the more times it happened, the easier it was to put two and two together. Rudy simply got rid of his stomach pain by biting on things.

We therefore had to move away from the barf and back to the dry food to maintain what was now intact.

Over the years we have tried a lot of dry food and found that what works for our boy is to be on dry food primarily, and then supplement with raw food every now and then. This is to avoid the stupid stomach ache, but also so that Rudy has the desire to eat and doesn't get tired of the same dry food all the time.

Grain-free definitely doesn't work either, so we ended up with Eukanuba's large breed with chicken, and 1-2 days a week he gets a proper portion of Kragborg raw food, which he is crazy about getting his teeth into.

We call it “The Best Of Both Worlds”, and although it took almost 5-6 years to find the right combination, Rudy thrives on super delicious food, and happiness is in getting delicious, varied food.

Most importantly, he doesn't walk around having stomach pains.
