1.5 years ago I had 3 dogs. PellePirat, Kyimo (Tibetan Terrier) and Ella (former Greek street dog).
Today I only have PellePirat. And he has been an only dog since January 2017. That was when I had to say goodbye to my favorite and very much loved Kyimo. Ella had been euthanized of old age 3 months before.
It was unbearable to lose 2 dogs in such a short time, and I was grateful that I had gotten PellePirat when I did, even though I had always sworn that 3 dogs were too many. Fortunately, life gives us what we need - when we need it.
I haven't been such a puppy-crazy person once since. I've been a little and briefly, but not to the point where I knew that another dog was going to move in. Besides, I've had more than enough in my lovely PellePirat.
But, now the thoughts are starting to come. Another dog? Yes, there are things that become more difficult - including care. But should that be the limitation? Care is already a difficult thing, because I am completely confused about who can and must care for my dogs.
But, the bottom line is: I make a living training dogs and teaching. I have huge ambitions for myself and my dogs - and right now, right now my PellePirat is drowning in ambitions and training in several sports. And he misses a friend. He misses the community that only dogs can give each other.
So now, for the first time, I'm playing with the idea of dog no. 2. And I'm actually also signed up for a puppy in 2019. And I've also been offered to take over an adult dog from a friend. Now we'll see what changes the next six months bring... And maybe... Another dog with us.
