When I was little, I always wanted a dog for Christmas. I dreamed of dogs, and always hoped that Santa Claus would finally see my great potential as a dog's friend. But the naughty Santa always flew past our house, and there was never a dog dumped "down the chimney"...
Until I turned 30, and my own personal Santa Claus – Jan the man – made sure our landlord wrote into our contract that we could have a dog. It's just the best gift he's ever given me (besides the kids (bonus kids) lol).

Living with a dog (or several, as we were lucky enough to do for almost four years – Blop AND Fjolle) also comes with a huge responsibility.
I know several people with disabilities, mental or physical (or both), who have dogs. I know some with service dogs, and others where the dogs are not trained service dogs, but are simply the SICK'S HELPER.
At home, Fjolle is my soul's best healer. He is sometimes my body's worst enemy. AND by that I mean that now, when I am on crutches by accident and with an attack (multiple sclerosis), and with Don Joy, I need good friends and acquaintances who can be my "physique" when I don't have it...

Fjolle has to be walked three times a day, and Jan has to work. I can't walk up stairs – YET, so I can't get down to my scooter (which is in our hallway). All my training is focused solely on me being able to WALK OFF OUR ROOF TERRACE – down our stairs and get on the scooter – and get back up the stairs, AND IT'S BECAUSE OF Fjolle – yes and mine. Because I love my walks with him – on foot or on the scooter. We love our walks together.
I have a dog because I love dogs, and I have a dog because he nourishes my soul, and I hope that even with my disabilities, I also nourish his.
It would be easier NOT TO HAVE A DOG in the situation I'm in right now, but luckily my network is our "heroes", and they have my dog and his walks when I can't.
It's not something I take for granted. I thought it through carefully before we bought Blop, because back then I was in a wheelchair and had to push myself up and pull myself up the stairs to get down to the electric scooter. I'd like to do that again, but since my knee is completely porous right now, it needs time to "re-establish itself".
Back then with Blop, we also had "heroes" who picked him up when I was DOWN.
Why do you have a dog(s)?
I have it because I can't live without it.

Happy New Year from Fjolle and Ib
We'll probably go on trips again – on a scooter and on foot. Fool's mother just needs to get back on her feet, and while I'm rehabilitating, he'll get to see the street with people who also love him.

Behind the scenes of this week's blogger:
We are Fjolle and Ibbe. Fjolle is a PBGV. I am – yes, a person who sometimes wishes that “I was just a dog”. Fjolle is my second dog. My first dog, Blop, was given to me as a gift by my husband when I became seriously ill. Fjolle and I are looking forward to being part of this wonderful BLOG UNIVERSE.
