Do you have children?!

Har du børn?!

My daughters and I have a group on Snapchat called “doglovin”. Here we send each other pictures of the dogs when they are cute. Spamming is allowed every day, even several times a day.

When we got our first dog, we often called each other so that the rest of the family could see how cute the dog looked. We talked for many years about when we would no longer call each other to show off a cute dog – here 12 years later, and two additional dogs, we still call. The son-in-law is being forced to go through all the pictures again, which the daughter has of course taken a screenshot of.

Do you have dogs on the couch? Yes! Do you also have dogs in bed? You can imagine that. I live with dog hair on my clothes and on my pillow. It's sometimes really annoying to have leftovers from nature under the covers, but lying in bed with your dog is also really cozy. We pee with the door open so the dogs can be there and they're in the back of the car when we go shopping. Do you also do things without the dogs? Yes, I do…..hmmm….. I have to admit that I very often do things where the dogs can be there – my (bad) conscience is proportional to my presence.

Your dogs can do anything, do you have no limits? Of course I do – but they are forgiven a lot. I have many good explanations for why it happened. And when I come home and find all my nightwear in the hallway for the 4th day in a row, I get soooo tired – but then there are 3 dogs sitting there looking up at me very sweetly with their heads tilted slightly. They insist on contact, and they immediately get forgiveness and a nuzzle behind the ear.

My mother also has a dog and has for many years, I have always looked after their dogs. Now we are each other's dog sitters. She keeps an eye on the dogs' well-being. We can't have a phone conversation without her asking about the dogs. If I come to visit without the dogs, she is disappointed and asks in surprise why they are not with us. She talks about her own dog, about the walks they have taken, about who they have met – and I listen with great interest, and I am happy for them.

At my job, I'm a preschool teacher, I know all the children I'm with and my dogs, and I know their names, how old they are, what their favorite food is and what they like to do. They often ask how the dogs are doing, and if they can see pictures of them. One afternoon a few days ago, the conversation turned to children, and I told them something about my daughters, whereupon one of the children exclaimed in surprise: Do you have children?!
